It was Super League's eighth against ninth as Wakefield Trinity made the long trip to the sunny south of France to take on the Catalans Dragons.

Both teams have had inconsistent starts to the season and were looking for the two league points but more importantly a confidence boost as they look to secure a top eight spot and keep their eyes on a top four finish.

A second effort by Remi Casey on David Fifita gifted Sam Williams a simple twenty metre penalty after five minutes to open the scoring.

On thirteen Ben Jones-Bishop took an Tinirau Arona pass to brush off two attempted tackles and drop to the floor to ground. Williams was unable to add the touchline conversion.

An airborne Jones-Bishop grounded one-handed in spectacular fashion for his second try in three minutes, and despite Williams failing to goal it was still a 10-0 lead for the visitors. The Dragons looked rocked.

Sloppy Dragons play in the Wakefield twenty was picked up by Tom Johnstone who pinned back his ears and went eighty metres to score under the sticks without a Dragons hand on him. Williams added a simple conversion and on the half-hour it was 16-0 to Trinity.

Three minutes from the interval and Benjamin Garcia engineered a solo try to drag Scott Grix over the line with him and when Luke Walsh added the extras it was a Dragons lifeline.

The second half was just three minutes old when Joe Arundel ran the angle off a Danny Kirmond pass to slide in at the corner. Williams again failed to convert a difficult opportunity for the extra two.

Within two minutes Krisnan Inu got his first try if the season dragging four Wakefield tacklers over the line with him to ground by the right corner flag. Walsh slotted the conversion perfectly between the uprights, pegging the Trinity lead back to eight points.

The game was ebbing and flowing and on fifty-one Jacob Miller passed to Matty Ashurst who went behind the sticks to give Williams a simple conversion for 26-12.

On fifty-nine Ian Thornley was sin-binned for a professional foul, slowing a Trinity breakaway attack making the Dragons task even harder.

Ben Jones-Bishop completed his hat-trick with a sixty metre run to go over under the sticks, leaving the Dragons tacklers in his wake. Williams added the extras and Wakefield had an important away win.

Fouad Yaha grabbed one back for the Dragons as he dropped over by the left corner flag and when Walsh added the extras then score was 18-32 but with only ten minutes left on the clock a fightback was improbable.

Within a minute Tom Johnson scored a second length of the field try after again picking up another sloppy Dragons pass. Scoring under the sticks he made the Williams conversion a formality and Trinity had the points safely packed in their travel bag for the flight home.

This was a terrific away win for Wakefield Trinity which lifts them to sixth in the Super League table and a step closer to a top eight finish. They took the game to the Dragons in attack and were solid in defence. The Dragons, on the other hand, look devoid of ideas and low on confidence and will need to find some form in the coming weeks or they will be in a whole heap of trouble and in danger of a middle eights berth at the end of the regular rounds.
